Traveling with three active children (ages 8, 5, and 3) in the middle of a freezing Korean winter is never easy. You always worry: “Will it be too cold to play outside?” or “Will the kids get bored?”
However, my recent trip to Demisaem Recreation Forest (데미샘 자연휴양림) in Jeollabuk-do changed my mind completely. It proved that you don’t need a packed itinerary to have a perfect family vacation. Sometimes, a great view and clean air are all you need.
Here is my honest review of our stay at Demisaem for 3 days, a hidden gem for nature lovers.
1. Breath-taking Views and Deep Silence
The first thing that captivated us was the location. Deep inside the mountains, the air was incredibly fresh and crisp—something we rarely experience in the city.
The highlight, without a doubt, was the open view from our accommodation. Looking out at the winter mountains covered in snow and trees brought a sense of peace. The deep silence of the forest was healing in itself. Just breathing in the cool, clean air made the long drive worth it.

2. Clean and Convenient Facilities
For a family with young children, hygiene is the top priority. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and well-maintained the accommodation was.
Often, forest cabins can feel old or drafty, but Demisaem was modern and warm. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There were also BBQ facilities available, which allowed us to enjoy a camping vibe without the hassle of setting up a tent in the cold. We had beef and chicken bbq using charcoal.

3. Why My Kids Loved “Doing Nothing”
Usually, when we travel, I feel pressured to take the kids to playgrounds or hiking trails. But this time, it was too cold to spend much time outside.
Surprisingly, this turned out to be the best part of the trip. Because the view from the room was so spectacular, we were happy just staying inside.
- Quality Family Time: Instead of running around, we prepared meals together while looking out at the stunning scenery.
- Dining with a View: Eating delicious food in a warm room with a panoramic mountain view felt better than any luxury restaurant.
Even my energetic kids (8, 5, and 3 years old) enjoyed the cozy atmosphere. It became a precious memory of us bonding as a family, away from TV and smartphones.

4. Conclusion: A Place We Must Visit Again
Demisaem Recreation Forest gave us a realization:
A good accommodation is a destination in itself.

We didn’t hike far or do extreme activities. We simply stayed, ate, and looked at nature. Yet, it was one of our most satisfying trips. If you are looking for a quiet place to recharge with your family in Korea, I highly recommend visiting here.
I am already planning our next visit.
